THE WAY OF THE LORD
God makes known His will in His Word. To know Him is to know that which He has revealed about Himself and His ways in the written record of His Word. He has not made these things a mystery for man to decipher or just guess about. Nor does He work in “mysterious ways” that we’re to wonder about. For those who want to know Him in truth, the Word of Truth declares Who He is, as well as what He has done and what He will do.
In the book of Exodus is a remarkable record of an event in which God (called “the Lord”) shows a man, Moses, His way. Let’s read and learn.
And Moses said unto the Lord, See, Thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and Thou hast not let me know whom Thou wilt send with me. Yet Thou hast said, I know thee by name, and [Thou hast said], thou hast also found grace in My sight. Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in Thy sight, shew me now Thy way, that I may know Thee, that I may find grace in Thy sight. EXODUS 33:12-13A
What a request! Although we weren’t there with Moses, God has recorded this for us to learn about Him. He wants us to know Him and His way.
And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in My sight, and I know thee by name. And he [Moses] said, I beseech Thee, shew me Thy glory. And He [the Lord] said, I will make all My goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. And He said, Thou canst not see My face: for there shall no man see Me, and live. EXODUS 33:17-20
The record of this continues into the next chapter of Exodus.
And Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone. And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin. EXODUS 34:4B-7A
He is a God of mercy, grace, patience, goodness, forgiveness. Isn’t that what man needs? He wants us to know Him and His ways and to walk with Him in the great depth of the truth of all that He is.
