SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES DAILY
Acts 17:1-10 is the record of Paul and Silas entering the city of Thessalonica and teaching the greatness of God’s Word, as it had never been taught there before. Even though, in their synagogues, the Scriptures were taught on every Sabbath (Saturday), they had not been taught the things that had been accomplished by God’s only-begotten Son. They didn’t know that the one-promised to deliver man from the bondage of sin, “the Christ”, the Anointed One, had come. Jesus, man’s redeemer, had fulfilled every single thing promised and declared in the written prophecies of the revealed Word of God.
Paul showed them from the Scriptures that, “It was necessary for ‘the Christ’ to suffer and to rise from the dead.” And that, “ ‘The Christ’ is this Jesus whom I preach to you.” Some hearing this were convinced and believed. But others of the Judean leadership, being envious, bribed certain wicked men of the market-place, and gathering a crowd, they set the city in an uproar. They were able to stir up both the crowd and the city rulers by saying, “The men who have upset the world have also come here!” And, “These men are against the decrees of Caesar! They say there is another king: Jesus!” Then, because of the riotous tumult, the believers sent away both Paul and Silas, by night, to Berea.
In Berea, Paul and Silas continued to boldly teach and preach the deliverance and redemption available now. The required price has been fully paid by the Son of God, Jesus, “the Christ.” Forgiveness of sin, justification by grace, the power of God’s gift, holy spirit—all are now available to freely receive by believing. Not one “good work” done according to the law of Moses is necessary. These great truths were “new” to the ears of the Bereans. They liked what they were hearing, but they wanted to confirm the things that were being said with that which is written in the Word of God.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word withall readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so. ACTS 17:11
Let us follow the example set by the wonderful saints of Berea.
-Eagerly receive the truth of the gospel, the right doctrine of the Word of God.
-If something taught is new to your ears, don’t dismiss it outright or oppose it with tumult.
-Go to the written, revealed Word of God for yourself.
-Search the Scriptures daily.
-Prove whether, or not, those things are so!
